This summer I am living in Charlotte, NC. Why? you may ask. BEcause my mom got a Job transfer (which she has wanted for a long long time) to arizona. I am verry happy for her and am actually really looking forward to living in charlotte this summer. Mebane is a shithole, thats what i think. I hate it and never do I want to stay more than a weekend here if i can help it. I will miss a number of the people in mebane, that of course goes without saying. I leave for charlotte around the 13th of this month, its going to be a blast. We all need to get together before the summer sucks us away with jobs, relationships, and anything outside of mebin, I know it sounds oh so cliche... but O'Charlys?

Life Update

So in besides my mom getting a job transfer to Arizona (she moved out west a few weeks ago), my step dad moving mid-May, my grades slowly slipping down the hole (because I hate my courses).... I am enjoying life. Scuba Diving classes are sterling, I enjoy every minute of class and I am looking forward in earnest antici pation to getting PADI open water certified this summer in Florida. I also look forward to my friend and my trip to Cozumel this summer after we both get certified. That should be fun. Scuba Diving is great there so I hear from family who have dived there. I still don't know where I will be living this summer since the house will be sold or rented out as soon as Mel heads over to AZ to meet my mom. I have a few shaky options but nothing near concrete. Start new chapter of life: Pratt gets thrown into a pool of murky independence. I am looking forward to summer more and more each passing day, though I know that it will be cut to 2/7th of what i am used to... getting a job is a bitch, but i will need the money. The past few days I've been going to an awesome place called Hebron. This beautiful get away of sun bathed rocks bathed by a brisk stream is all I need to eacape from the bullshit that is dorm life at App state. Im having major second thoughts about my major and I dont like the alternatives that this schol has to offer, makes me wish i gave a fuck in highschool. THe rents want me to move to AZ and check out ASU (Ariz. State. Univ) though if I uproot myself again i may go mad. Moving is the bane of my life and i have done it more times than you can shake a stick at... its about as exciting as whale shit and i hate it. I am living in an appartment next year and i have that to look forward to atleast. I have good friends here and its that reason alone that i will come back next year to ASU. Trying to figure what the hell to do with your life is the hardest part of the equation you will ever encounter. I have already had to go back and erase once. Will i do it right the 2nd time around......

Nosce te ipsim

    <lj:music>Will Smith - Fresh Prince of Belair</lj:music>

Going to war over religion is like arguing over who has the better imaginary friend.

The notion of a single deity that created a race of
beings of which 30% actually believe in him and half of that actually
FOLLOW his word is one of the most ingenious marketing ploy the human
race has ever devised. It is nothing else. Too many riddles of the
Bible are simply explained in "belief" or twisted and molded (what some
wrongly call 'interpreting') into something completely absurd that fits
what we want to hear.

If you read the bible, you are by NO MEANS
WHATSOEVER reading God's decree. You are reading what one man told
another, who told another, who told another, ect... You've all done
this exorcize, tell the person next to you that you 'the rabbit eats
lettuce' and by the time it reaches the end it resembles 'that fat
bitch won't let us.'

Why is there no mention of the dinosaurs in the
bible? Surely if god made earth in 7 days men would have met with those
beasties at some point. How about this paradox: The Bible says that God
is all mighty and all powerful. Being all powerful means that God could
create a Mountain that even He couldn’t Lift, were he to chose to do
so. But if he can’t lift it, he isn’t all mighty, is he? Hmmm. (Insert
"well it’s all based on belief" <<---here) and of course, the
most outlandish idea of all.... the earth is around 7,000 years old.
According to a few bible thumpers I’ve run into recently, if you trace
back all of the events in the bible chronologically, the earth is about
7,000 years old. Carbon dating is completely wrong then? I had to leave
when I heard that. They might just be the crazy religious ones, I don’t
know. I hope that belief isn’t commonly accepted.

Anyways, I'm not saying that religion is a bad
thing, it does indeed save lives and certain organizations do wondrous
amounts of good all over the world. What I am saying is that fighting
over religion and judging someone because of religion (or lack there
of) is a bad thing. So many problems with religion and none of them
will be fixed because no one dares to THINK!

Thank God He doesn’t ask you to jump off a cliff...
New pet cat causes distress
Glenn LaFollette - Columnist
2005-01-27 18:11:32

Few things in life are as special as that first pet.

I remember mine. His name was Barney. He was a great cat, but then he played chicken with a Buick and lost. Barnes was a black cat, so the fact that he was stupid enough to think he could outwit a sedan wasn’t surprising. However, through every misplaced “doo-doo” and clawed ankle, I loved the little guy.

I have another one now. After recently moving apartments, I became the co-caretaker of a new piece of crap — I mean this quite literally. Its name is Kitty, and it blows. While the cat is actually female, it is my opinion that evil is unisex, so I refer to it as “it.”

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve dealt with animals my whole life. For one, I grew up on a farm so I know the ins and outs of sheep raising. (Get it ... I said ins and outs like I … nevermind.) I also know a lot about cows, since I’ve been to my fair share of date parties. (My e-mail address is at the bottom, ladies. Send your hatemail there.)

My family even had a llama. No, we didn’t name it Tina. No, we didn’t feed it ham. Actually, we fed it plastic, and it died.

Why is this cat so bad? I’ve only been here one week and it’s already mistaken by bed for a litter box once and my roommate Grant’s twice. I mean, what the hell? This isn’t how you welcome new people into your home … well, except in maybe in Canada.

“Well, there you go, eh. There’s you some extra blankets for the cold there. Oh, and I made sure to just soak down your mattress with the ol’ whistle. It warms you up real nice, and scares off the bears, eh. If you need anything else, I’ll be in the next room watching ‘Kids in the Hall’ and finding ways for the world to forget our country exists. Night, eh.”

The urination problem can probably be linked to one thing: The devil cat is in heat. This I must say is the funniest thing I have ever witnessed. It makes me wish human females went through heat. Wouldn’t chemistry be a lot more fun?

“Class, this is the Bunsen burner. You’ll use that to heat the mixture that you put it in these long, glass beak … beakers. Um … wow, is it hot in here? Class dismissed.”

Kitty just walks around looking for someone to put it out of its misery. You know, kind of like Kirstie Alley in those Jenny Craig commercials.

“Jenny, I’m fat, girl.”

Yes, Kirstie, we can see that. You apparently ate Ted Danson and probably Woody Harrelson, too. Since dating Whoopi and “Money Train” those guys have been harder to find than Osama.

Grant and I have looked for answers. Obviously, we could take it to the vet, but that would be too simple and easy for our pulsating man-brains. We scanned online for a while and one answer did surface.

ME: Find anything yet?

GRANT: Yeah, but you gotta agree to do it first.

ME: Sure, fine, whatever. I’m just tired of it rubbing its butt on all my friends that I bring over.

GRANT: Is she that bad?

ME: Yeah, it’s like the drunk, fat girl at a party. She’s getting laid, and it really doesn’t matter who or what species at this point. Oh, what’s the cure?

GRANT: It says here that if you stick a Q-tip in her vagina it should end the cycle.

ME: I’m moving out.

Needless to say, Kitty’s still in heat. It’s even mastered the art of opening doors like the raptors in “Jurassic Park.” It doesn’t come in to slice open my small intestine. Instead, it just walks across the top of my bed and jumps on my face.

I haven’t sleep for more than an hour any this week.

But I find creative ways to fight back. Have you ever thrown a cat at a futon? Wow, let me tell you. Screw Zoloft. If you have depression issues just find a cat and throw it as hard as you can at a piece of furniture. You’ll feel worlds better.

Grant and I also do this thing where we lay socks on Kitty’s back. It’s stupid so it won’t just shake them off. It’ll walk four or five steps then fall over and lay there until we take the socks off. When you’re drunk this equates to hours of entertainment.

I’m taking suggestions of all kinds to end this plague upon my house. I need sleep, and more importantly I don’t want to be raped by a cat.

— Glenn LaFollette is a super-senior in journalism and electronic media.
bah, thisweekend........ what a hastle. Headed down to Mebane before hoppin over to Chapel hill on saturday. Hit up Ginny's party and was glad to see Ginny, Creekmiur, Meghan, and most everybody there. Later Nick, Mark, Galen and I headed over to the Hill because wa all knew that the party on frankiln was going to be crazy due to their gay win over miami. bah.

Good times... deisel mixed with orange juice and chased with rum is a good way to get right. Saw Cara on saturday and also saw Zane Hendricks(sp?) and Mitch Carter.

that night we couldnt find a place to stay so we went back to my house (Me, Nicky T, Gay Gay, Markus, Random Lost Chick) to crash. This ended up being a really good thing because we all got a bed plus or minus the random female, and we all got a killer brunch filled with pancakes, sausage, bacon, OJ, Eggs and Cheese, Eggs and Chirriso, and Toast. man, that was great. My parents rock now that I am not home all the time...

Halloween was good, went over to Spoony's friends apt. at UNC and started the drinking. Played a few games, learned the true meaning of "wanna go watch a movie?" and ended up seeing Cara and Crue, Jan, Mitch, Max, Kim, Abbe, Nicole, Christina Barac, Mary Kate (app), Julian (app), other App guys and girls (around 10 other peeps), and some of Galen's Greenville bros and some of Matts Greensboro Bros. Saw some mad cool costumes... noah's ark, spermii, oompa loompa, and muchos other cool ones.

Stayed with caras Suitemates for 3 hours before i had to leave at 5am to get back in time for classes. ugh.

Bush 2004

Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct! " crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language.
Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!

"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan.. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.

If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move
to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so! But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag,
our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

Tonight I saw one of the best and yet worst movies I have ever seen. Donnie Darko is a movie that put me in a mindset that I have never experienced before. Not bad, good, just different. I love the fact that there is no other movie that parallels it in plot, and the filming style is really excellent. Such a twist of reality and thought provoking movies are hard to come by it seems, and this movie is lacking in none of the mentioned. The end, however, is what I really disliked. Quite contrary to what I had hoped the ending would entail. I really hated the end, thought it was very appropriate... I think that the movie would have been better with an alternate finale. Some strange thing inside me almost always prevents me from watching a movie twice if the ending frustrates me, so I dont think I will be watching this one again, though it is really quite superb.

Go see the movie if you havn't already, its worth a look-see, Frank says so.
